Three types of weight loss surgery

One of the last ways to cross your mind as you r last resort should be weight loss surgery as it is invasive and might not be safe.   Well, if you have made up your mind then you need to know that there are several types of weight loss surgeries.   It is important that you consult with your health care provider regarding this before you go on with the procedure.

This should be the last option if you want to lose weight since it is pretty invasive.
How does it work?
There are three types of weight loss surgery that could help you lose weight.  Restrictive, which works by limiting the food intake, malabsorptive altered the digestion process, which altered your digestion process and the last one, which is the combined procedures of those two.

Restrictive procedure
It alters the size the stomach, which forces the person to go on a diet.  Don’t worry though as it doesn’t interfere with the normal process of the food digestion.  It involves the creation of small stomach pouches in the upper portion of the stomach.   The capacity of the new pouch is only one half to one ounce, which is connected to the outlet “stoma”.   Since it is small, the person would only need t eat small to feel full.   However, you would need to comply with the small amount of food that you need to eat in one sitting since the stomach would be enlarge if you can’t comply with it.

Types of Restrictive procedure
Vertical Banded Gastroplasty – The upper stomach is stapled vertically around 2-1/2 inches to create a smaller stomach pouch.  It employs the use of a ring or a band, which allows the patient to feel  fuller by eating a small amount of food.  Researchers says that those who have undergone this procedure is able to can maintain at least fifty percent of targeted excess weight loss.

Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Banding – It is otherwise known as stomach banding since uses a band to dive the stomach into two.  Since food is regulated, the patient would be full faster whenever they are eating.  There are no effects in the digestive process of the food.  The surgery is reversible since the band can be removed.

Malabsorptive procedure
Such surgeries alter the digestive process. Like the first one, there are also several types of malabsorptive procedures that we can turn to.   Some procedures involve bypassing the small intestine, which limits the absorption of the food.  To make it easier to understand, it just means that the surgery reduces the intestine that the food goes to.

Biliopancreatic Diversion – its goal is to limit the amount of food that you able to eat.   It involves the creation of small stomach pouch, but it has a larger pouch. It alters the anatomy of the small intestine, so the food ingested would easily reach the bile and pancreatic juices.  Once a patient undergoes this kind of surgery, they don’t need to be in a restrictive diet anymore.   Then again, any procedure is always dependent upon the patient’s capability.

Combined procedure
This procedure is also known as Gastric Bypass Roux-en-Y.  Reports claimed that this is the most popular procedure.
